I have been working in publishing for nearly 25 years. From March 2003 until May 2015, I was the publishing director of STC Craft / Melanie Falick Books, an imprint of Abrams. Prior to that I was the editor-in-chief of Interweave Knits magazine. I am also the author of Knitting in America and Kids Knitting (both from Artisan), Weekend Knitting, Knit: A Personal Handbook, and Handknit Holidays (all from STC Craft), and co-author of Knitting for Baby (from STC Craft), with over 400,000 books in print.

I loved my work with Abrams and proudly published books by many extraordinary authors, including Natalie Chanin, Heather Ross, Denyse Schmidt, Lotta Jandsdotter, Lena Corwin, Joelle Hoverson, Kaffe Fassett, Livia Cetti, Spoonflower, and Mood Designer Fabrics. To learn more about this work, view a catalog here and the Abrams website. You may also want to check out these videos about how I work from Open Road Media and Creativebug.

I decided to leave Abrams to explore new personal and professional possibilities. I am currently writing a book about the role of making by hand in our lives and culture and also doing freelance writing, editing, and creative direction. On this blog I am tracking my journey.
