I am an independent writer, editor, and creative consultant, and I have been working in publishing for nearly 25 years. I am currently writing a book about the role of making by hand in our lives and culture, to be published by Artisan in 2019. I am the editor and creative director of Mason-Dixon Knitting Field Guides and I write the "Beginnings" column for Uppercase magazine. I am also the author of Knitting in America and Kids Knitting (both from Artisan), Weekend Knitting, Knit: A Personal Handbook, and Handknit Holidays (all from STC Craft), and co-author of Knitting for Baby (from STC Craft), with over 400,000 books in print.
From March 2003 until May 2015, I was the publishing director of STC Craft / Melanie Falick Books, an imprint of Abrams. Prior to that I was the editor-in-chief of Interweave Knits magazine.
While at Abrams I proudly published books by many extraordinary authors, including Natalie Chanin, Heather Ross, Denyse Schmidt, Lotta Jandsdotter, Lena Corwin, Joelle Hoverson, Kaffe Fassett, Livia Cetti, Spoonflower, and Mood Designer Fabrics.
